My students are required to read in class every day. After they read, they are required to respond to what they read. They can make predictions, talk about characters, discuss plots, create projects, etc. By doing this, students are reflecting on what they have read. This allows students to not just "read", but to "actively read". My goal is for them to read a book collaboratively. The novel Millions by Frank Cottrell is a heartwarming adventure novel about two brothers who suddenly find themselves with a vast amount of cash—and very little time to spend it. Students will engage in several financial literacy projects and discussions before viewing the major motion picture! This project will make a difference because it will allow students to read a book that they WANT to read about financial decision making. Since we chose this book together, students are already excited about our new book arriving in our class. Any time I can get students excited to read, I consider that a huge victory! Thank you for your support.
