As a first grade teacher, I am responsible for teaching all academic subjects as well as keeping my 6-7 year olds engaged, focused, well-behaved. Teaching in an urban elementary school, our resources can be few and far between and our student behavior can sometimes get in the way of our academic time. My first three years in KCK, I learned the key to a successful classroom and a well-behaved classroom environment can be summed up in two words: engagement and love. I am the teacher that is constantly thinking of new ways to create hands-on ways to practice literacy, math, science, and social students. For example, we use play dough and stamps to practice spelling, poems and songs to remember our sight words, and a range of manipulatives in math. It is amazing the growth in academics and behavior I have witnessed in my classroom the past few years with my teaching style. The variety of materials I am asking for range from simple wipes to clean our desks, to literacy games, to headphones for our technology time. For the past 3 years I have filled my classroom with supplies, games, our afternoon snacks, etc. on my own. This year I am asking for your help. I appreciate any and all support for my classroom! Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my story.
