This project will provide a wide array of intriguing nonfiction texts on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math topics to 25 5th grade students! Currently, my classroom has very few nonfiction texts, let alone ones that students are actually excited to read. My 5th graders are at a monumental point where reading can either seem like a chore or open up a new world. Help me inspire my readers with thought-provoking texts for our classroom! These carefully selected books will engage and inspire students in STEM topics, while Scholastic News and Dynamath magazine subscriptions ensure that texts are always new and exciting! These texts explore a variety of topics from current events, to coding and circuits, to pollution and ecosystems. Students will use these texts for independent reading, research, and to deepen our STEM learning topics. The magazine subscriptions will be used weekly for students to read independently, in small groups, or as a class. We will use the magazine articles to practice reading comprehension, literacy, and ignite group discussions. These books and magazines are NGSS aligned and are differentiated to support all levels of readers.
