"Do we need our pencils today?" my elementary students always urgently ask when I come to their classroom to escort them to my Resource classroom. If I reply yes, the students immediately look sad, and some even start misbehaving. So, what is the problem? Writing. The students know that if they have to bring a pencil they will be writing in class, and they dread it. If they don't need a pencil, they know we will be working collaboratively and doing more verbal work, and they enjoy those activities more. The products I have chosen will help improve writing skills and help students with disabilities in writing become comfortable with expressing their ideas and finding success with small writing tasks. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student confidence and morale, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement and language acquisition, giving them a lifetime of self-expression.
