Students will work collaboratively to build a bottle rocket that can successfully launch into the air, achieve at least 10 seconds of air time, and safely land to the ground by deploying a parachute of the students' design. Through this project, students will have the opportunity to engage in engineering practices associated with the Next Generation Science Standards while applying various physics concepts integrated into our school's science curriculum. Teams will design, test, and record data on their rocket as part of a competition to see which aircraft can remain in the air the longest. This project will not only give students an exciting new experience with the engineering process, but also "launch" a sustained interest in STEM-related fields.
