Teaching a novel to high school students is not simply teaching the novel itself. Often, you have to do a little research to help the students make connections to certain ideas and concepts. These books will help me not only with the presentation of the material, but also what to present and what not to present. For example, the book Socratic Methods will help me sharpen my questioning, whereas, the novel Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison might have an excerpt, which will dovetail with the novel Just Mercy we are reading this year.
