Flexible seating gives students a chance to sit in seats that work well for them. It allows them to get some energy out so they can keep their brains involved in learning. I allow my students to work on the carpet, at their desks, standing desks, etc. When students get to pick a special place to complete their work, they are often more on-task and take ownership over their learning. I know it was challenging for me in elementary school when I had to sit at my desk for hours and hours. I have requested a lamp for us to use during the day, and the rolling chair is for my VIP of the day. If a randomly selected student has an excellent day, they receive "VIP" privileges the following day. This is my first year as a classroom teacher, and I hope to give my students some great options!
