Did you know that poor balance and coordination of the brain and body contribute to ADHD and that weak sensory and motor systems affect a student's ability to comprehend, pay attention, and have successful hand-eye coordination? Thorough research shows that balance stimulates visual and auditory processing by strengthening and fine-tuning the vestibular system. The vestibular system (located in the inner ear) serves as our brain's central processing unit. Strengthening this system helps with coordination and communication between the brain and other parts of the body.
Having two balance boards in every classroom will help our students develop and refine balance and coordination. Recent studies prove this will lead to substantial gains in academics, social skills, physiological development, and athletic abilities. Additionally, the pool noodles will be attached to the rocker of the board to protect the beautiful floors our custodians work so hard to care for. As our staff members focus on meeting the individual needs of students, the balance boards will be just one tool out of many that will help students experience success.
