Students will have a chance to sit in a classroom that has lighting that helps with concentration and comfort. Students are given more of an "open air" atmosphere. My students will enjoy the powder blue clouds of the ceiling instead of the fluorescent light that inhibits some students attention. Fluorescent lighting affects overall student performance on academic tests. Also, students that are exposed consistently to fluorescent lighting exhibit more behavioral problems at school. The light filters will change the lighting in the room creating a more comfortable learning environment. Research has compared students who were exposed to fluorescent light to students who were exposed to large amounts of natural or full-spectrum light such as light filters. The results were students who were exposed to fluorescent light consistently performed worse than the full-spectrum students on an array of academic tests. The results pointed to a major problem with fluorescent light. The “awake” signals that are triggered by blue light are also influential on mood. In particular, they can increase both stress and fatigue. This combination makes it more difficult to perform many routine tasks. Classes such as mine, reading and grammar, can be stressful. Light filters in classroom provide a light that is distributed across the spectrum. This light is soothing to the eyes providing an environment for concentration. So, please help provide a learning environment for my reading and grammar classroom. Help these 5th grade students succeed!
