First graders are active, busy learners. My students are learning to be cooperative, interested learners, and often working in groups- either large or small- is a great way for them to be successful learners and group members. To have supplies for them to work around the room, not just confined to their desks, will create opportunities for them to learn, grow, and produce good work with a variety of materials. As a team, my fellow teachers and I often have children from other classrooms come work as a combined group with some of our students. The number of desks or areas to work can sometimes be limited- an assortment of learning opportunities will help all be more successful learners.
