My students put every effort into being there; they do not, however, come with school supplies. For many, it is a choice of eating, electricity, or school supplies. I like students to come in and have everything they need and not worry about the classroom environment. They have pencils, paper, and markers for projects and discussions. We have 45-minute class periods, and I don't want kids taking those precious minutes asking someone for items that they do not have. Everything on this list comes out of my pocket just to get through the 1st half of the year as well as many other things. I have incorporated a news and vocabulary day on Mondays which require subscriptions to the local newspaper, as well as other major publications.
