Placing a book in a student's hand opens up a world of possibilities and for many of them, this will be a new experience. While we know that reading builds verbal fluency, emotional intelligence, comprehension and so more, having a book of your very own builds a sense of pride as they embark on their reading journey. My desire is to provide our students with a personal copy of each Reading Bowl book in order to encourage a more personal reading experience. They will have an opportunity to write notes in their books and highlight passages that they believe are important. They will have an opportunity to underline vocabulary that they don't understand and refer to it for further discussion. But most importantly, they will begin to build their own personal library and increase their love of books and reading.
