At our school, we place a lot of emphasis and effort on social emotional learning, believing that making connections, displaying empathy and teaching virtues are so integral in learning success. Our school receives many students from war torn countries and is placed in a low socioeconomic area. I plan to go into grade levels and do specific lessons focused on healing from war torn countries. We can surely assume that most all of our students at CAES have experienced some type of trauma. Attending this conference will allow me to develop more tools in my toolbox to help our students cope with difficult emotional responses. In addition, I plan to provide professional development for staff that don't attend with me.
