Due to the likelihood of loss or damage and the migratory life of many of my students, they are not allowed to take home laptops or books. In essence, they do all their work at school. I've noticed that they don't bring or use simple school materials such as notebooks, paper, or even pencils--they probably don't have any and if they did, they may well be damaged in substandard housing. So my plan is to have the students start learning to learn with school supplies of their own. There still will be no way to have them take the items home, but at least they can keep notebooks at school, add to them with daily documents, and use them for studying before tests, just like they will when they move on to college. All I am hoping for is enough small binders and pencils so that they can have a place to keep their work.
