With my 1st Graders coming into my classroom behind their affluent peers, it is imperative that their learning space in phonics is organized so that they are able to maximize their learning time and successfully master their reading, phonics, and fluency. The storage bins and shelves will assist in keeping their 6 small reading group's materials organized. Each scholar will be given a folder, a small pencil pouch and photo box (to contain flashcards of sight words). These materials will be housed in the designated storage bin. The magnetic letters will be a wonderful manipulative to help students build new words with phonics skills learned or review old skills to build their background knowledge. These manipulative will in turn assist the scholar in becoming a better reader.
