Desks in a classroom is not the only way a child can learn the content. Children can sit in many different spots to complete work, learn, and gain knowledge. There are many learners that are not at their best behind a desk. Chair that allows for movement, can lead to more focus and allow for more learning. Students may simply need to move away from their desk to move into a better mindset. A different chair, clipboard/whiteboard and a new learning area may be just the key a student is looking for to unlock a whole new experience in the classroom. Why confine them behind a desk? When students are able to move to a new learning spot, they can make responsible decisions, like moving away from a distracting peer, resetting after a setback, and allowing for space to move without disrupting others. Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligence, supports the idea that children learn in different ways, we should be providing environments that support this!
