When my students can choose where they want to work in the room, it keeps the classroom quieter, making it easier for students to concentrate. It also allows them some space so they are not distracted by others. They stay engaged longer and create better quality work when they are working in a space that is optimal for their learning. Currently the only options for workspace, other than their tables is to use clip boards while sitting or laying on the floor. If I had other seating options I would be able to move many of the tables and chairs out of the classroom to create more open space and have less tripping hazards than we currently have because there is very little space to walk. A calm, comfortable, and safe place for students to work optimizes learning conditions for all.
