Each year my students perform a musical with song and dance. It has been my goal since student teaching to have my students at a level that they might be able to accompany themselves on instruments while singing. This year, my students have been working hard to become rhythmically and melodically fluent, and I think we are finally at the stage that I could add in some instrumentation to their show in May. Although I do my best to incorporate Orff playing into my instruction, my resources are hardly that of an Orff classroom. I strive to give students exciting music experiences, but I find that my classroom is lacking in the areas of performing and creating. I believe that these instruments will give me the momentum I need to give students experiences that will spark their interest in music for years to come. I foresee drumming circles, Orff feelings circles, and general Orff incorporation in the future of my music lessons. This is something I am extremely passionate about, and I think my students could stand to be inspired by the love of instruments and music that these resources will bring. Thank you.
