William Arthur said one day, "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." This project will inspire students to "see in 3D" and to create 3D models for a multitude of applications. The project will help students to visualize math and make connections between 2D blue prints and 3D objects. Students will be able to design a 3D object using engineering design programs, such as Google Sketchup or CAD, bringing the imagination alive. In math and science students get a better understanding of the topics they learn in class if they are taught in a hands-on approach and the 3D printing can facilitate the learning transforming the abstract thinking into reality. This project will ultimately facilitate and enrich the collaboration among different subject areas, by allowing teachers to assign tasks that would network with each other and consequently, inspiring students to envision a bigger picture than the one they see in one classroom.
