The materials I am requesting already have a purpose and a "home." I am stepping back into the classroom after a few years of other administrative type roles because I miss working with students every day. I am starting from scratch and want to start off the year with a cozy and welcoming environment where students feel safe learning, exploring, and growing. I am requesting basic storage supplies like bins to house student items such as books and pencils. These will help students when they want to locate books by genre or high interests. The smaller bins will be helpful for pencils, markers, and erasers when working in small groups. Students who have sensory needs or fidget will have options such as the chair bands, stools, or exercise balls to help them concentrate while meeting physical needs. The crates will serve multiple purposes for students such as storage units complete with a seat/ laptop desk. Our classroom does not have a carpet so in order to minimize noise, chair tennis balls and stool socks will be used. The standing desk is to house the document camera that I requested as my classroom will truly be a student-centered classroom. I will not have a desk for myself, only that standing desk/shelf. The primary goal of the requested resources is to create a welcoming, student centered space where students have flexibility in their seating choices in order to best suit their needs in order to be successful.
