In Kindergarten, we do learning centers everyday. The students rotate through four different educational centers daily during English/Language Arts time. The four centers are teacher table, reading books center, word work center, and listening center. Our classroom listening center currently only has books on tape. The students are not familiar with audio tapes, and they have a difficult time rewinding and fast forwarding them. A CD listening center would be much easier for the students to operate and enjoy.
With a new CD listening center set the students would all be able to hold a book in their hands and follow along with the CD. Research has proven that listening and following along with complex texts helps kids become better readers. A CD listening center book set will help my students to learn how to read in the right direction (left to right), recognize sight words, learn new words, and build vocabulary. My sweet Kindergartners will also really enjoy being able to operate the CD themselves.
