My goal is to bring a high altitude balloon experience to the entire middle school class. We will send payloads into space and gather data to better understand our earth. The core aspect of the materials we ask from you will be the GoPro cameras. On a high altitude balloon, there is no way to control orientation within space. So to get an ideal image, four cameras are strapped to the payload. Three of these cameras will capture above, below and a horizon angle of the ascent while the fourth camera will provide footage of the experiment the kids' design to see the vacuum effects of space. What middle school student can say they sent something into space? Well in addition to sending a payload to space, incredible footage will be brought back with the donation of these cameras. Some examples of experiments the kids have drafted to send to space: testing the taste and probability of popcorn kernels before and after a space flight, watching the effect of near space vacuum on a canister of marshmallows, and what effect does near space vacuum have on certain plastics and building materials. The accessories included will be to maximize the potential for footage to use in projects, presentations and experiment write-ups. The best kind of footage is steady stabilized footage which is where the Karma Grip gimbal will come in handy. Lastly when the cameras free fall to the ground with a parachute it's important to make sure we can reuse the materials so a protective case is included as well as a carrying bag to make sure all the materials are kept in the same place.
