The Qball is an innovative microphone used to increase student engagement, allow quiet voices to be heard, and to draw the listeners attention to the speaker. I plan to use the Qball in my classroom to do all of these things and more! I would love to give the students the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations by asking each other questions and choosing their peers to answer. We could accomplish this by letting the students toss the ball to their classmates!
The Qball will be used in all of my classes every day reaching students across 5 grade levels. Students who are usually misheard, due to having quiet voices, will finally feel like they are able to participate in the conversations in my classes. Student engagement will be increased because students will be tossing the ball back and forth among each other - so they will really have to be "on the ball" to know if the microphone is coming to them.
Special Needs Students and English Language Learners will benefit from being able to clearly hear questions and responses. As well as being able to practice singing out loud and hearing what their voice sounds like, they will be able to participate more in a variety of settings by being in charge of who gets the ball to answer their questions.
