Research has shown that reading in a second language helps to increase student understanding and comprehension in the target language (Spanish in this case). Interesting and language proficiency level appropriate novels can help with this. The novel I have chosen for this project describes a mans life in Guatemala and the devastation that has caused him to flee his home country. According to Dr. Stephen Krashen, reading in the target language is important for second language acquisition. I am looking to provide proficiency level correct novels for my students to read in class. It also helps to engage them with the content and feel a sense of immense pride when they can read a whole novel in a different language.
