INNOVATION: Morning tubs will motivate students to expand their cognitive capacity through creativity! Research has shown that young kids need chances to play, create and build in order to build critical thinking skills. Morning tubs will allow students to express their creativity and will allow students to interact with one another at the beginning of each day. Morning tubs will also allow a stress free way to start the day for students who may have anxiety when it comes to school. Morning tubs will give students 15 minutes at the beginning of each day to collaborate, communicate and develop critical thinking skills. Inside each morning tub, students will find different STEAM materials such as, blocks, linking objects, and other building materials. There will also be a tub with art supplies in it such as, crafting scissors, origami materials, beads, stamps and other materials used to challenge their creativity. ASSESSMENT: At the end of each day, students will debrief with their tables/groups what they were able to accomplish during morning tub time. Students will have opportunities to share their creations. Students will also write in their writers notebook for 5 minutes after morning tub time to tell what they created, what materials they used and what they want to create the next day. SUSTAINABILITY: I will be purchasing sturdy tubs for these materials to be kept in. Students will also be trained extensively on how to handle the materials. The materials will last a long time because they will be cared for properly and will be treated with respect.
