I am aspiring to purchase activity tables and chairs for all of my students to be able to sit in and use in my classroom. Right now, my students have to sit in the same worn out, hard desks that have been in my classroom for years. Many of these desks are even falling apart. These desks give the students little to no room to work on or even place their school laptops on. It is the one thing they hate about my classroom. I also believe in creating lessons around and that include many small group activities. I want my students to be a community of learners and believe that group activities and joint productive activities are one of the most beneficial ways for students to learn. A student-centered classroom allows students to work together to accomplish objectives. This also helps students become more independent learners and they take more responsibility for their learning. Students also help each other learn and become teachers themselves. Right now, the desks that I have in my classroom makes it hard to create a group centered classroom. They are uneven, which makes it hard to put the desks together to create a group. Also, the seats are attached to the desks, so they have to be placed awkwardly together. This creates disconnection between the students in each group. By having activity tables, students are equally spaced around the uniform table, facing each other. This creates an environment that allows for academic conversations and learning. I believe this is an important part of learning! I also believe that having these activity tables and chairs with create a more comfortable and inviting environment. I want students to enjoy their time in my classroom. These new tables/chairs will help provide a comfortable and educational classroom!
