Remember getting brand new school supplies every year? The excitement of owning something that is just yours? I wish for my students to have this as well. Through a changing demographic and intense need my students experience I hope to have writers notebooks-- a place where their writing and learning can live that is theirs. We are continually reminded of the need for ownership in education. Students need to feel autonomous with guidance. I know students can feel the power of words and gain new and valuable skills through exciting methods of journal writing as well as standard-based instruction. A binder/notebook that is theirs and only theirs with specific categories can allow for a new found home for their own learning growth. And giving them new materials sets them up for success while saying, you're worth it!
