The materials I'm requesting will add to my 2nd grade math toolbox. Some of the items will be new to our class, and others (white boards, journals and geoboard-bands) are simply in need of replacement.
The more ways I can present a concept, the greater chance all of my budding mathematicians will grasp it. Place value can be especially tricky. We already work with money (dimes and pennies), base-ten blocks and other manipulatives, but the place value practice cards and student hands-on packs may broaden understanding for some. The Visualize Math boards may be beneficial to students still struggling to understand the relationship between addition and subtraction, as well as those ready to move on to multiplication and division. The other item that will be useful to beginning multipliers is the Hands on Multiplication and Division Kit. By this time in the school year, most of my students have a basic understanding of fractions. The Building Fractions, Decimals & Percents Magnetic set will be useful in reinforcing those basics and extending learning for those ready to advance.
Thank you for considering donating to our class.
