With our new laptop and color printer, we will be able to access a critical support for developing visual communication systems (like PECS) - which is called Boardmaker Online. Without updated technology and a means to print what we create, we can't access this tool at our school....and then we can't make the visual icons that each individual student needs to communicate. Each year we get new students who need special picture icons to tell us what is most important to them. Sometimes it is a favorite food; a beloved song or toy; or the ability to express when they are sad or happy. Making visual picture icons through Boardmaker helps them learn key communication skills - and is critical in supporting our students (especially those who are currently non-verbal) in feeling safe and known at school.
