6th grade General Music is the first time many of my students, many of whom come from disadvantaged homes, have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument without their parents having to pay for lessons. They are excited to play the piano and they challenge themselves to learn more. Often they help the student with autism and downs to learn to play simple songs. Although we have enough pianos for the students to share, we don't have any stands. Students have come up with creative ways to hold the pianos on their laps while practicing their songs. Having stands for the pianos would help the students to learn piano in a more comfortable position, not sitting on the floor holding the piano in their laps, but sitting in a chair leaning the play from the proper position.
