Many students stop coming to school because they feel like they don't fit in or that people don't understand who they are or where they came from. It is my goal to start off the school year celebrating who we are and where we came from by diving into different cultures and situations. A good portion of our students have parents who came up from Mexico, but we also have students who fled from Ukraine and Russia. I want to give my students the opportunity to read stories just like theirs or to learn about those stories through the readings of different novels. I want to teach students to be accepting of others no matter where they came from, the color of their skin, or the language they speak in their home. What matters is who we are as people.
