For students with disabilities, social hands-on learning is imperative! We are wanting to start a coffee cart business to run every Friday for our teachers. My students will be able to depend on the consistent routine of this cart every Friday morning.
By running this coffee cart, my students will be targeting social goals, by working with their peers to fulfill the orders and interacting with teachers upon delivering the items; math goals, by counting the money and making change; reading goals, by matching the items on the order form to the real-life k-cups and life skills goals, by learning how to complete tasks in a work setting. My students will also be able to work alongside typical peers who can serve as mentors through the process.
My students will help us to make colored copies of the order form and deliver to each teachers’ mailbox. We will use the clipboards and the pencil pouches to collect the order forms and money on Friday morning. We will head back to one of the 3 designated areas where the students will look for the matching k-cup from each order form (we will color code the cups with sharpie markers- French vanilla may have a blue dot on order form and blue dot on actual k-cup). The students will use the calculators to find the change needed if any is needed to return to the teachers. They will work with typical peers to fill each order and deliver the drinks! Lastly, they will be responsible for cleaning the work area and packing all supplies away for the following week
