Each day our students come in and get out their interactive math journals. As a department we have them cut and paste information and math rules into their journals, as well as bell-work and standard specific reference sheets that are helpful for both the students and the parents. We have been using interactive math journals for the past three years and really want to continue using them next year because of the value that they are to the students, but our funds are limited. We have been using tiny elementary sized scissors and our students have a hard time using them since their 7th graders and growing. Our students need bigger scissors that fit their bigger fingers. Our students have asked almost every day this year if it was possible to get bigger scissors for them. We also are using glue sticks every day to paste into our notebooks. We figure that each individual student uses 4 glue sticks per year, but when their is 450 students that adds up to a lot of glue sticks. We had our Parent Teacher Association provide each teacher with 200 glue sticks and that lasted us the first half of this year, and then we used some of our teacher supply money and then of course our own. Each day about 5 - 10 glue sticks are making their way to the trash can due to running out. We really need more to make it through next year!
