For students to get hooked on science they can't just read about it! We are reframing an alternative high school for at-risk students to be project-based. Meeting the needs of 35 at-risk high schoolers in every science content area and with every level of skill sets is not for the weak. Our river community project offers our students an engaging and relevant hands-on dive into multiple science disciplines and augments our Wisconsin Community Tree Mapping Project. It will connect them to their community and allow students to experience their potential while contributing to the understanding and improvement of their town. Our students deserve more than "kitchen science", what I refer to as the "equipment" I bring from home. Science equipment will allow us to collect and analyze data in class and in the field. If we are sent to quarantine this equipment will allow for student-driven inquiry with me being their lab assistant!
