Having these books in my classroom will help me to continue to build literacy skills, develop a positive reading culture in my classroom, as well as to help educate students on important topics such as social justice and disability awareness and acceptance. Both of these books have received critical acclaim since their publishing because of how they cover topics like racism and police brutality, discrimination due to ability level, and how to come into your own as a young person in America and not being seen as “normal” or like everyone else. Both of these books cause their readers to take their own lives into account and ask themselves the question, “How can I become an advocate?”
