My students need a listening center! Helping our classroom with the funds for this technology would allow groups of students to listen to stories being read to them during literacy centers while they closely follow along with the words on the pages. As research-based best practices suggest, following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. The colored pencils and fadeless paper will help them create a great bulletin board that reflects their learning. I love reading stories to my students and they love creating bulletin boards to share their learning. However, the experience of reading independently and getting lost in a great book is truly invaluable! A listening center will develop their reading level, push them to grade level texts, and set them on a path for future success as their love for reading is enhanced.
