As women, we are often extremely critical of our own bodies. This starts at a very young age as we begin to grow and develop. As a teacher, working with middle school students, I see this on a daily basis. I see students with low self esteem and body image issues. These types of thoughts affect the students physically as well as educationally. I want to begin a program to teach the young women at my school how to exercise appropriately, as well as promote positive body image and healthy nutrition. Many of the young girls at my middle school need a positive, strong, female role model. I am creating an after school Fitness Club that will promote positive body image as well as provide workouts for the students. I am requesting some basic exercise equipment for my students to use during this after school club. As a teacher who has struggled with my weight all of my life, I know how cruel kids can be. This group will not only be an exercise group, but also a safe place to share our fears, goals, and accomplishments. The equipment will help me to provide safe and effective workouts for my students while helping to boost their confidence and promote a positive body image.
