My students have profound autism, meaning that while they are in 9th-12th grade, they function at a lower cognitive and developmental level. By providing them with the opportunity to hatch chicken eggs, students will be able to watch and participate in the entire process of the chick's growth, their life cycle, and learn to provide care for an animal. They will be able to learn about climate by using the incubator and heat lamp, as well as be required to feed and care for the chicks once hatched. My students will be able to learn through a hands on experience that they will never forget!
