Our school is focused on the social and emotional learning of our students. This project is intended to provide a calm down box for every classroom in the K-5th grade side of our school. In guidance classes, we teach our students about the brain, emotions, and self-regulation. These calm down boxes would provide our students a place in their classroom to prepare to learn after becoming angry, anxious, or sad. We would use these boxes to teach students how to self-regulate and then allow students to use them in the classroom when they need to. This self-regulation strategy for each room would allow students to spend three minutes in the calm down corner, address the emotion, and then continue learning.
