Imagine hearing a loud pitched noise all day everyday. Now imagine always feeling like you’re crawling out of your skin. Now imagine being in a very loud, crowded place with no doors and no way out. This is how my students feel each and every day. Providing an area within the classroom that can relieve them of these feelings will not only make school a more enjoyable experience, it will allow them to be more successful academically. When these students are more successful in the classroom they are learning more independent functioning skills to assist them with being successful adults. The materials I have requested will also help students learn strategies that they can use at home and/or in the community to help calm themselves when they are feeling overloaded by sensory input. You donation can help these students now and in the future.
