The most important thing about being a school counselor is the environment that I create for my students, especially in my personal office. When kids come to see me, they need to feel safe and secure, and a big part of that is making sure that students are comfortable. Right now, I only have folding chairs for them to sit in! The various types of seating that I have requested (a bean bag, and exercise ball, etc.) would allow students to feel more comfortable in my office and, therefore, making my office a more emotionally safe space. Being able to use technology in my counseling practice (i.e. an iPad and protective case) would allow my students the opportunity to have more methods of communicating their thoughts and finding coping mechanisms through the various apps and programs that are available for counselors via the App Store. For a lot of students, school is the only place they feel safe. I would love to be able to give my students a secure, comfortable space for them to be able to express themselves and process what is on their minds. By funding my project, you will help me do just that for the next generation of leaders!
