By providing my classroom with garden tools my students will be given the opportunity to grow their own herbs and vegetables. Many of my students live on the outskirts of the suburbs, which means they have not had the experience to garden and be part of nature. In addition, my students are classified with learning disabilities and in a self-contained setting. Giving us the ability to have a garden will give my students new skills and experiences that they may not otherwise have. We will link our indoor lessons of nutrition, food prep, and life science to what we are doing outdoors. These students learn best hands on and having a garden to call their own will help them to feel successful.
