My second-language learners will benefit from reading stories that are embedded in the American culture. Every story has a moral that can be applied into my students' lives and as a result, new life lessons may become embedded in their learning. Without question, this is how we link literature and teens; we make it personal! Not only will my precious students learn about American literature, but they will also develop their reading comprehension skills, expand their vocabulary, use their critical thinking skills and connect with the author. In addition, they will learn how to respond to the reading and complete a book report in preparation for college. After all, most of my students have never read a novel. Therefore, this is your chance to help a community limited in resources and begin closing the learning gap.
