My students are an inquisitive and happy group of 6 and 7 year olds. They are excited about school and love learning. Our school has a high percentage of lower income families that receive assistance. However, they are rich in the love and care of their families and they value education. For many of them, school is the most consistent part of their lives. My classroom is a place that provides positive recognition and I genuinely care about each of my kids. My classroom is a safe place to learn, and take risks. I tell my students that once they are one of "my kids" they will always be "my kid," and I have students return to see me, even decades after they have "graduated" from First Grade.
