Third grade is a year of growth and increased independence. There is so much to learn and many students often are reluctant to do so. When a purpose for learning is identified, student motivation increases. Providing students the opportunity to publish their writing using a Cricut, into a book will give students a purpose for learning. Research shows that when students have a purpose for learning their motivation increases as does their effort and drive to showcase their best work. Students will be motivated to go through each of the steps of the writing process; ultimately finalizing their writing piece because they have a purpose. Having the opportunity to publish their writing will also motivate students to practice typing. Third grade is the first time students have the opportunity to practice typing in the classroom. With a purpose, students will be motivated to put their best effort forward, knowing that it will impact their ability to become a publisher of their own writing!
