My kids need their basic needs met before they can learn! They are often hungry and snacks are a huge expense. It may seem small but getting snacks throughout the day makes a huge difference in their ability to maintain appropriate focus and remain emotionally regulated. I have had kids that have had full blown, major meltdowns all because they didn't get to eat breakfast. Kids come to me all day everyday asking for help with food. Snacks are also great tangible motivators for my kids who are trying to maintain appropriate behaviors for rewards. You would be surprised how hard a child will work for a candy bar. These are little things that we often take for granted, but to my students, they mean the world.
