In a SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language) classroom, students work in groups during a majority of their day on inquiry, research, design, and academic language. They are expected to turn and talk to their groups on numerous occasions throughout a lesson and put their heads together to think! Right now, Team Velocity is winning our collaboration race with 93 points! WOW! Group tables allow for easy access to each other and any adults in the room during collaborative work time. It will eliminate the constant struggle of large chunky desks that are taking up too much space, time, and maintenance. When the teacher needs to support a group, these tables are set up to easily offer assistance. It will also give groups a sense of ownership as a team to keep their table organized and well maintained. In this day and age, desks are outdated and don't produce a sense of community and collaboration. It's rare we see students in rows at any age! We are constantly switching groups throughout or units and school year so that we work with different people. Help us to become better teammates and help us learn academic language together.
