Making art is fun and it can also be a healing experience. With a growing number of our youth experiencing trauma outside the classroom, there is an increased need for our students to have an outlet for expressing their feelings in a positive and constructive way. Expressive visual arts can be a creative way of reversing harmful codes the brain develops to deal with trauma. Clay construction is an integral part of creative expression. Almost every student will experience an art class while attending CMSl. Supplying consumable products for all artists is a costly and challenging endeavor. The art department at CMS is requesting the purchase of colorful glazes for stoneware clay sculpture and canvases for acrylic painting. Students will construct pinch pot animals, monsters or critters and apply glazes for color. After glazing they will paint a portrait of their creations! Grant resources can help provide this experience for all CMS art students.
