These titles would allow our library to circulate award-winning, engaging literature to our ESL students who use Spanish as their primary language. Those students who are newly arrived to our school are often challenged with communicating in English, yet they must complete reading assignments of titles they have chosen or are reading as a class such as Romeo & Juliet or Animal Farm which are studied in ninth grade. These titles would be a lifeline to their academic lives as they gain English proficiency. With so many pressures of transitioning to life in our learning community, to be able to read classic titles studied by whole classes or engaging titles for personal reading will give a vital resource to these students.
