In a reading intervention classroom, many students are apprehensive about reading. Some have felt unsuccessful and discouraged for several years of their academic life. They often characterize themselves as bad readers. My goal is to create a safe and welcoming learning environment for my struggling readers. The balance ball flexible chairs aren't only "cool" looking, but they will help the students who struggle with keeping still. They can bounce on the stool and as they are using their core to stabilize themselves, they will be releasing some of their built up energy. Students will be able to focus more on reading. The soft rug and portable desktop will be used when we have carpet time. Materials needed will be within students' reach. The inflatable chairs will be used when students have independent reading time. My students will be able to sit comfortably in a quiet spot in the classroom, instead of at their desks.
